A weird thing happened today. I went to collect the eggs as per usual, but in a strange place, there were a number of eggs, so I picked one up. It weighed more than the others so I got my torch and checked them.
8 of the eggs seemed to have chicks inside!
I hope to raised at least a few of the chicks - I'm really hoping they survive!
I am in contact with the man most knowledgeable about these things - Don!
Oh.... and I also have about 8-10 baby stick insects.... seems like our home is growing into a farm!

Bizarro! That must have been quite a shock. Bleh. But fun to raise some chicks "from scratch" so to speak. :D

Hopefully Don will be able to give some more advice over the next while and we'll have some healthy chicks to show!

Thanks Carol, Kane loves the thought of these things, but like most kids loses interest after a while and I have to look after them.
We feed them blackberry leaves instead of privet.

Yes, I sort of realised that's what happened. My ladies hid these away from me - they look almost ready to hatch already!!!

Surprise! Girls can be sneaky like that. I miss having my girls around. I loved it when they decided to sit. After 21 days it was almost like Christmas for a good week or so!
I can't wait to see your new additions when they hatch.
Baby stick bugs??? I will have to post the picture of the one I found at camp. I know they are out there but have never seen baby ones. Its been almost 10 years since I saw my last one.
