Goblets and bowls

The lathe is now set up on a bench, and I have had a chance to practice using my new tools.

My first thing...EVER!

An oak goblet.

Then I thought I'd have a go at a bowl using an offcut from a thick kitchen worktop.

These were sanded using a fine grit and natural oils used to finish.

A few days later I made and acorn in softwood, sanded on the lathe, polished with wax and buffed with soft safety cloth.

I enjoy this craft a lot and can't wait to learn how to do it better.

My first go at wood turning!

I thought I'd show you my first ever go on my new lathe!

This was a short section of low quality softwood which was originally meant for a decking spindle.

I must say, I'm rather pleased with my efforts...

...I just need to make sure my chisels are REALLY sharp next time!

A new toy!

Hello again friends!

I thought I'd let you in on a new exciting project!

Today I bought an old wood lathe off a friend of my Dad....

...for £50!!!!

I got 13 chisels, spare chucks, rests and other fittings for that too!

As you can probably imagine, I am SOOOO excited!

Lets see  what comes of this new hobby.
